POSITION: Senate Communications Director

LOCATION: Washington, DC; remote work negotiable

American Bridge 21st Century, a progressive research and communications organization dedicated to holding Republicans accountable for their words and actions, is hiring a Senate Communications Director for the 2024 election cycle to implement the messaging, earned media, and rapid response strategy for our senate campaign programs.

This position will be a member of the organization’s senior staff and will be responsible for interfacing with partners and allies as well as coordinating with other members of the leadership team. While American Bridge 21st Century is based in Washington, DC, remote work is negotiable for candidates who live elsewhere in the U.S.

 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Working closely with our research, media monitoring, and tracking teams to identify and develop strategies around key pieces of research, and develop and implement a comprehensive press strategy focused on the Senate map. 

  • Pitching and shaping news coverage from local and national media outlets, and working with other members of the communications and digital teams to identify and carry out strategic priorities on generating earned media coverage.

  • Drafting products - including op-eds, press releases, and other materials for media consumption - to drive coverage and lead rapid response/bracketing efforts.

  • Working with partners and allies on earned media efforts.  

  • Working with internal digital and paid media teams to ensure coordination of Senate program strategic priorities and leverage other content for press.

  • Participating in regular strategy sessions on overall message development as well as press plans for the week/day ahead.

 

The ideal candidate will: 

  • Have at least six years of experience in a communications capacity on a campaign or in a similar environment. Campaign experience in a leadership role is strongly preferred. Senate campaign experience is a plus.

  • Experience working closely with opposition researchers to pitch stories. 

  • Have significant on-the-record experience. 

  • Have a firm grasp of today’s traditional and social media environments. 

  • Have a great sense of humor and creativity.

  • Enjoy working closely with others of diverse backgrounds and personalities.

  • Work well under pressure and on deadline.
